It lets you temporarily share your location with specific contacts. There is also a new item on the main Google Maps panel called Share location. From this page in settings, you can also delete all or a portion of your location history. Under Location settings, you can see if Location Services and Location History are turned on or off. In 2016, Google decided to discontinue My Tracks and stopped distributing it via the Google Play store in April 2016. I found it interesting to see which spots Google logged for me over the past week or month or year, and I don't plan on disabling the service. Initially, My Tracks was initially released by Google in 2010 as open-source software. I had location history enabled for Google Maps and didn't know it.
